FAQs
GENERAL
What do you mean by “Natural”?
We recognize that no skincare product is truly "natural" in the sense that it exists in nature as-is. When we say our products are natural, we mean they are made from pure, nature-derived ingredients without petrochemical derivatives, synthetic dyes, or preservatives. We carefully blend these ingredients to create skincare that stays as close to nature as possible.
What is handmade soap?
Handmade soap is crafted by hand using a traditional artisanal process, typically with natural and locally sourced ingredients. The main ingredients—oils and an alkali—combine through a process called saponification, which has been around since ancient Babylon around 2800 BC. Over the centuries, this process has been refined, allowing us to create custom soaps tailored for specific uses with distinct properties.
How do you make your soaps and shampoos?
Our soaps and shampoos are made the traditional way—with care and attention to detail. We use the cold process method, which means no heat is applied, preserving the healing properties of our pure ingredients. We blend oils with a saponification agent to start the transformation into soap. As the mixture begins to turn into soap, we add natural essential oils and powders for fragrance, color, and aromatherapy benefits. After pouring the mixture into molds, the soap is left to cure in a climate-controlled room for four weeks. Once fully dried and solidified, the bars are hand-cut, stamped with our logo, and carefully packed in recycled kraft paper bags—only when we are completely satisfied with the batch.
What’s in your butter, soaps and shampoos?
As our name suggests, tallow is our star ingredient. Used for centuries in skincare, tallow is now recognized for its ability to moisturize, support the skin barrier, and promote regeneration. Rich in essential fatty acids, it helps lock in moisture, reduce dryness, and improve skin flexibility.
In addition to tallow, we carefully select natural, nourishing ingredients, including:
Oils: Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Castor Oil
Organic Essential Oils: Cedarwood, Cinnamon, Frankincense, Lavender, Lemongrass, Patchouli, Rose Geranium, Sandalwood, Sweet Orange
Food-Grade Organic Powders: Activated Charcoal, Alkanet Root, Coffee, Rose Petal, Sidr, Spirulina, Turmeric
Every ingredient serves a purpose, ensuring our products remain pure, simple, and deeply beneficial for your skin.
I like liquid soap/ shampoo, why should I use a bar soap/ shampoo?
It’s simple—liquid soaps and shampoos require preservatives to prevent them from spoiling. The longer they need to stay fresh, the more preservatives are needed. Since we’re fully committed to keeping our products 100% natural, we choose to make bar soaps and shampoos instead. The choice is yours, but if you’re looking for pure, preservative-free skincare, our bars are the way to go.
How long should my bar of soap/ shampoo last?
It depends on how often you use it and how you store it. With proper care, a bar can last 4–5 weeks or longer.
To extend its life:
- Use a soap dish that drains well and keeps the bar dry.
- Keep it out of direct water spray to prevent it from dissolving too quickly.
- Let it dry completely between uses.
- Use a washcloth or jute bag instead of rubbing the bar directly on your skin.
With the right care, your bar will stay firm and last much longer!
Is your soap/ shampoo ‘Tearless’?
While our soaps and shampoos are gentle, no handmade soap or shampoo can truly be "tearless." Most commercial tearless products use nerve-numbing chemicals to reduce discomfort, which is not something we use in our natural formulas. We recommend avoiding contact with the eyes, but if it happens, simply flush with tepid water. While mild stinging may occur, no harm will happen.
Do you test your products on animals?
No, we absolutely do not. All of our products are tested on willing friends and family, including our dog, Charlie—who is always happy to lend a paw!
Can I wash my hair with your soap?
Absolutely! However, if you've been using commercial shampoos for years, your hair may need a transition period when switching to natural soap. We also offer shampoo bars for both humans and pets.
The effectiveness of washing with bar soap depends on several factors:
- Hair length
- Scalp type and sensitivity
- Water quality and hardness
- Washing method
- What you’ve used before
- If you are a man or a woman
Commercial shampoos strip hair of natural oils, leading to the need for conditioner. Our natural shampoo bars don't strip oils, so you may not need commercial conditioner.
Transitioning to a chemical-free shampoo bar can take time as your hair adjusts. You may experience a detox phase, especially since our bars are free from detergents, sulfates, artificial fragrances, and preservatives.
During this period, a vinegar rinse can help. Mix three tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar with about 30g of warm water, pour it over your wet hair after washing, and rinse immediately. This will help reset your hair’s pH, leaving it shiny and smooth while also preventing an itchy scalp. The amount of vinegar can be adjusted depending on your hair type—less for dry hair, more for oily.
What should I do if oil seperates from tallow butter?
First of all. Do not worry!
Since our tallow butter is made with only beef tallow and virgin olive oil, slight separation can sometimes occur, especially in warmer temperatures. This is completely natural and does not affect the quality or effectiveness of the product. Here’s how you can fix it:
If you notice a small amount of oil separation, simply stir the butter with a clean spoon or mix it with a small spatula (your fingers works just fine too) until it becomes smooth again.
If separation occurs due to heat, place the jar in the fridge for about 30 minutes to help it solidify. Once it has firmed up, stir it again to ensure even consistency.
Prevention Tip: Store your tallow butter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources to minimize separation.
How and where do I use your tallow butter?
Tallow butter is a versatile, all-natural moisturizer that can be used from head to toe. Its nutrient-rich, deeply hydrating properties make it perfect for a variety of skin concerns.

Why does your product look different from the last time I ordered?
Each bar of soap and shampoo is crafted by hand with care, so no two bars are exactly the same. Sometimes, this means our cuts might be a bit less than perfectly straight, our logo might be slightly off-center, or the shade of the soap or shampoo may vary. That’s the beauty of handcrafted products—made just for you!

A time-honored tradition in soap making
Soap has been essential for hygiene and skincare for centuries, and tallow, derived from animal fats, has been a key ingredient in soap-making for much of that time. Dating back to ancient civilizations like the Egyptians, Babylonians, and Romans, tallow was prized for its cleansing properties.
In the Middle Ages, tallow became synonymous with soap-making, as it was readily available and affordable. The traditional cold process method involved combining tallow with an alkali, initiating saponification, which produced soap with glycerin as a valuable byproduct. The soap made from tallow was durable, long-lasting, and effective in cleaning.
Despite the rise of vegetable-based oils with the industrial revolution, tallow remained a staple due to its practical and eco-friendly nature. Today, there's a growing interest in tallow-based soap, especially from those who appreciate traditional, time-honored ingredients. While modern plant-based alternatives exist, tallow continues to be cherished for its history and unique properties in skincare.
What is tallow butter and why is it called butter?
Tallow butter is a rich, deeply nourishing moisturizer made from a blend of beef tallow and high-quality oils. Our tallow butter is crafted using only two simple, natural ingredients: beef tallow and virgin olive oil. This combination creates a smooth, easily absorbable balm that hydrates and protects the skin.
Despite its name, tallow butter is completely dairy-free and does not contain actual butter. It is simply a natural, nutrient-rich moisturizer for skin and body care.
What are the unique features of tallow??
Tallow offers several unique features that make it an exceptional ingredient for skincare:
Fatty Acid Composition: Tallow is rich in essential fatty acids like oleic acid, which helps moisturize and maintain the skin’s natural moisture balance, leaving it soft and supple. It also contains palmitic acid, which contributes to the hardness and longevity of soap bars. These fatty acids, when saponified, create a soap that not only cleanses but also keeps the skin hydrated and well-nourished. The bioavailability of these fatty acids means that they are easily absorbed by the skin, allowing for effective moisturization and nourishment.
Natural Glycerin: Tallow retains natural glycerin, a humectant that attracts moisture from the environment and binds it to the skin. This natural glycerin ensures a deeply hydrating and gentle cleansing experience. Many commercial soaps remove glycerin during processing and replace it with synthetic additives, but tallow soaps preserve this important moisturizer, providing a more natural and beneficial product.
Nourishing and Softening: Tallow is packed with vitamins A, D, E, and K, as well as antioxidants that help to nourish and revitalize the skin. These nutrients are highly bioavailable, meaning they are easily absorbed by the skin, offering effective nourishment and promoting healthier skin. Tallow helps soften rough or dry skin, leaving it feeling smoother, more hydrated, and supple.
Rich Lather: Tallow-based soaps are known for their luxurious lather, which is rich and creamy thanks to stearic acid. This rich lather gently lifts dirt and impurities, while the fatty acids help ensure that the skin stays moisturized. The lathering process also allows for better coverage of the skin, enhancing the cleansing and moisturizing experience.
Anti-Inflammatory Effects: Tallow contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which has anti-inflammatory properties. This makes tallow a soothing ingredient for irritated or inflamed skin. CLA can help calm and heal the skin, making it ideal for sensitive skin or individuals with inflammatory skin conditions, offering relief from redness and irritation.
Environmental Sustainability: Tallow is a renewable resource derived from animal fat, a byproduct of the meat industry. By using tallow in soap production, we help reduce waste and promote sustainability. Tallow-based soaps are also free from artificial additives and can be packaged using eco-friendly materials, minimizing environmental impact.
The bioavailability of tallow’s natural components ensures they are efficiently absorbed by the skin, offering lasting hydration, nourishment, and a gentle, natural cleanse.
Is tallow ethical and sustainable?
Tallow is often considered ethical and sustainable due to several reasons related to its production and use. Here are some points highlighting the ethical and sustainable aspects of tallow:
Byproduct of the Meat Industry: Tallow is primarily derived from the fat of animals, such as cows or sheep, that are raised for meat consumption. It is a byproduct of the meat industry, utilizing a part of the animal that would otherwise go to waste. Using tallow helps maximize the use of the animal and reduces overall waste in the process.
Animal Welfare Considerations: Ethical sourcing of tallow emphasizes the importance of ensuring the animals are raised and treated in a humane manner. This includes providing appropriate living conditions, access to open spaces, and proper nutrition. Supporting responsible and transparent sourcing practices ensures that animal welfare is prioritized throughout the supply chain.
Sustainable Production: Tallow has a relatively low environmental impact compared to some synthetic alternatives. Its production requires fewer resources and energy compared to the manufacturing processes of certain petroleum-based or plant-derived ingredients. Additionally, tallow is a renewable resource as long as animal agriculture is managed responsibly and sustainably.
Biodegradability: Tallow is biodegradable, meaning it can break down naturally over time without causing long-term environmental harm. When disposed of properly, it does not contribute to pollution or add to the accumulation of non-biodegradable waste in landfills or water bodies.
Versatility and Reduced Need for Synthetic Ingredients: Tallow's versatility as an ingredient in various products, such as soap and cosmetics, can reduce the reliance on synthetic ingredients derived from petrochemicals. By incorporating tallow into formulations, the need for certain petroleum-based or chemically synthesized components may be reduced.
It's important to note that ethical and sustainable considerations may vary among different producers and sources. Understanding the specific practices and standards employed by the suppliers or brands you choose to support is crucial in determining the overall ethical and sustainable impact of tallow-based products.

Dilution: Essential oils should always be properly diluted before applying them to pets. Dilute cedarwood oil in a carrier oil, such as coconut oil or olive oil, at a safe concentration. Typically, only a few drops of essential oil should be added to a larger amount of carrier oil.
Consult with a Veterinarian: Before using cedarwood essential oil on your pet, consult with a veterinarian. They can provide guidance based on your pet's health, age, and species, and help you determine if cedarwood oil is safe and appropriate for your pet.
Patch Test: Perform a patch test on a small area of your pet's skin to check for any adverse reactions, such as irritation or redness, before applying cedarwood oil more extensively.
Avoid Sensitive Areas: When applying cedarwood oil to pets, avoid sensitive areas such as the eyes, ears, nose, and genital region. Apply the diluted oil to areas where the pet cannot lick it off easily.
Monitor for Adverse Reactions: Keep an eye on your pet after applying cedarwood oil to watch for any signs of irritation, allergic reactions, or discomfort. If your pet shows any adverse reactions, discontinue use immediately and consult with a veterinarian.
While cedarwood essential oil can potentially help repel insects on pets, it's essential to use it cautiously and prioritize your pet's safety and well-being. If you're uncertain about using essential oils on your pet, consult with a veterinarian for personalized guidance.

Do you use LYE for your soaps?
Lye, also known as sodium hydroxide, is a highly alkaline substance commonly used in the soap-making process. While lye itself is caustic and can cause harm if mishandled or used improperly, it undergoes a chemical reaction during soap-making called saponification. This reaction transforms lye and oils/fats into soap.
The benefits of lye in skincare are primarily associated with the resulting soap. Here are some potential advantages of lye-based soap for skin care:
Cleansing: Lye-based soap effectively cleanses the skin by removing dirt, oil, and impurities. It helps to wash away pollutants and bacteria, leaving the skin feeling fresh and clean.
Gentle and Balanced: When properly made, lye-based soap can have a pH level that is close to the natural pH of the skin, which is slightly acidic. This helps to maintain the skin's natural barrier function and acid mantle, keeping the skin balanced and less prone to dryness or irritation.
Moisturizing: Lye-based soaps can be formulated with moisturizing oils and butters, such as olive oil, coconut oil, or shea butter. These ingredients can help hydrate and nourish the skin, leaving it feeling soft and supple.
Natural Ingredients: Lye-based soap can be made using natural and plant-derived oils and fats, offering a more natural alternative to synthetic cleansers. This can be appealing to individuals who prefer to use skincare products with minimal additives and chemicals.
Versatility: Lye-based soap can be customized with various additives, such as essential oils, herbs, or exfoliants, to provide additional benefits for the skin. These additives can contribute to aromatherapeutic effects, provide gentle exfoliation, or offer specific properties, depending on the chosen ingredients.
It's important to note that lye should be handled with caution during the soap-making process, and safety measures should be followed. However, once the saponification process is complete, and the soap is properly cured, lye is no longer present in the final product. This makes lye-based soap safe for use on the skin.
As with any skincare product, individual experiences may vary, and it's important to consider personal sensitivities and preferences. If you have specific skin concerns or conditions, it's advisable to consult with a dermatologist or skincare professional for personalized advice.
